2017 March Break Theme (Age 7-12)

Wild Winters is all about winter at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve! Sharpen your senses and hone your wilderness survival skills in this hands-on camp.  We'll practice: tracking, shelter building and fire building in the snow!  Learn how to survive winter as a human & how Yukon wildlife survive winter in the wild and at the preserve.

2017 Discovery Nature Camps (ages 6-9 by Dec 31, 2016)

Discovery Nature Camps are designed for campers ages 6-9 as of December 31, 2016. They have a maximum of 14 participants with 2 instructors. View the weekly schedule at the bottom of this page.

All Things Grow (ages 6-9)

Dig into the earth and get yer hands dirty! This week is all about things that grow - from home gardens and farms to the food that the preserve animals eat. We'll work on growing a garden, caring for domestic animals, wild crafting, and more!

Wilderness Skill I (ages 6-9)

Explore the Yukon Wildlife Preserve with all your senses! Grow comfortable in nature as we learn to read and understand the land and its wildlife. We’ll practice skills like tracking, shelter-building and fire-building. End the week by testing your skills in a teamwork challenge! Check out photos from last year and the year before.

Stones & Bones (ages 6-9)

Uncover mysteries of the past! From exploring rocks and minerals to discovering ancient tools, this camp is sure to please young scientists.  Get hands-on with an archaeological dig and hunt for fossils below the cliffs of the Preserve.  You won't want to get back to the future when this camp is done.

Animal Care Camp (ages 6-9)

Calling all budding veterinarians! Join us as we delve into the world of animals and find out what they need from us. We’ll help with animal feedings, check out x-rays from the Preserve’s clinic, and try some cool experiments. There is minimal to no direct contact with animals. Check out photos from last year and the year before.

2017 Explorer Nature Camps (ages 10-14 by Dec 31, 2016)

Explorer Nature Camps are designed for campers ages 10-14 as of December 31, 2016. They have a maximum of 8 participants with 1 instructor.

Animal Farm (ages 10-14)

Grab your trowels and your feed, it’s time to farm!  This camp teaches campers where their food comes from and where the preserve animals‘ food comes from.  Through science experiments, gardening projects, and animal exploration campers will learn all about farming!    

Wildlife Art (ages 10-14)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Join us to train your eyes, minds and hands to create works of art in nature. We’ll experiment with drawing, colour, different mediums, and natural materials to express our inner creativity.

Paleoscience (ages 10-14)

Discover life in bygone days from fossils to atlatls.  Experience Yukon’s paleontology and archeology, as we find evidence of eons past and recreate old technology.  This week blends scientific exploration and cultural skill building.  

Wilderness Skills II (ages 10-14)

Sharpen your senses and hone your wilderness survival skills in this hands-on camp. This camp picks up where past wilderness awareness/skills camps left off, but no prior experience is needed. Get those skills dialed, we’ll learn to make fires with flint & steel; and how to make real debris huts for survival situations!

Animal Care School (ages 10-14)

Caring for wildlife is no easy task. From rehabilitation to running the Wildlife Preserve, you’ll have a whole new appreciation of what it takes to care for animals! This week is about getting hands-on with the business of caring for animals, including working alongside animal care staff.We’ll even learn some veterinary skills. There is minimal to no direct contact with animals. This is one of our core camps and is offered annually. Check out photos from last year.
