Calling all animal lovers, bird watchers, bug collectors, dirt diggers and outdoor explorers... Join us for our inaugural nature camp at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve. Children ages 7-12 are invited to spend their summer days at the preserve while exploring, playing and connecting with wildlife and the outdoors. Each week will explore a different theme, with hand-on activities, games, crafts and lots of animals!
Who can attend?
Outdoor enthusiasts ages 7 to 12. Weekly camp themes will be the same for all children, but activities will be modified according to age groups.
When is the camp?
Nature camp runs 8 weeks from June 28th to August 20th. Each week will explore a different theme.
Week 1: June 28 to July 2 - Babies, Babies Everywhere (no camp on July 1)
Week 2: July 5 to 9 - Feathered Friends
Week 3: July 12 to 16 - At Home with Animals (all about animals and their habitats)
Week 4: July 19 to 23 - Journey through Time (Prehistory with Beringia Interpretive Centre)
Week 5: July 26 to 30 - Bug, Plants and Ponds
Week 6: August 2 to 6 - So you want to be a Veterinarian?
Week 7: August 9 to 13 - Wildlife Art & Photography
Week 8: August 16 to 20 - Climate Watch
Camp runs from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm every day.
Where is the camp?
At the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, located 30 km from downtown Whitehorse.
Is the camp indoor or outdoor?
The entire Nature Camp will be conducted in a wall tent and outdoors. We do have an indoor location for bad weather, but that will only be used in adverse conditions and not on a regular basis.
What is the cost?
Cost for Yukon Wildlife Preserve members is $225 a week.
Cost for non-members is $250 a week. Our prices include GST.
(June 28 to July 2 prices are $180 for members and $200 for non-members)
Our prices include transportation to and from downtown Whitehorse.
How will the transportation work?
There will be daily pick-ups and drop-offs at Shipyards Park in Whitehorse. Camp coordinators will be waiting for your children from 8:15 am to 8:30 am. The van for the Preserve will depart at 8:30 am sharp. Camp coordinators will return to Shipyards Park at 4:30 pm and you must pick up your child by 4:45 pm.
What should my child bring?
Ensure that your child brings everything they need for a day outdoors. This includes a backpack with:
- Raingear
- A hat & sunglasses
- Packed lunch & snack
- Refillable water bottle
- Sunscreen
- Mosquito Repellant
They may also want to bring a camera to take pictures of the animals.

How many kids in the camp?
Maximum of 16 children per week, on a first come first serve basis
We can provide transportation to a maximum of 12 children per week
